Throughout this period of change for Southmoor House, the number of units in the building has steadily fallen as owners combined multiple smaller units into more generously scaled properties appropriate to the value of the building. LABhaus has been the designer of the three most ambitious renovation projects in the building, including two full-floor residences and the reconstruction of the top three floors of the building as an ambitious triplex penthouse.
This project was a custom design for an end-user . The designed offered a flexible configuration which could seamlessly transition from a comfortable family home to a grand apartment for entertaining. Large-scale acoustically isolated doors allow the 75′ of park frontage to function either as three separate or one single space with one of the largest frontages on Central Park South. In the same vein, the home was designed to allow zoning through a series of security doors and a private entrance to the family and guest spaces. The large family kitchen can be opened as a show-kitchen for entertaining, with a hidden second facility serving double duty as a service kitchen and kosher kitchen.
