Set in historic Bay Head, this project started as a core volume which references the town’s classic two-story beach houses with a large front porch. That porch element, was then stretched and extruded to suggest a modern colonnade around a raised rear courtyard. The material selections give a nod to classic beach architecture– the bleached cedar long-board and shake accented by crisp white trim details retain a modern look. The interior was designed to blur the boundary between indoor and outdoor space. Each bedroom offers a private porch or terrace, and a large screen-porch blends into the great room via a pocketing five-panel glass door and screen leading out to the yard. The pool house and studio to the rear are serviced, like the pool, by an outdoor shower and powder room with private changing space and private storage for guests.
