Orienta Point is peninsula in Mamorneck projecting into the gentle waters of the Long Island Sound and flanked on either side by the protected inlets and harbors which make the region so beloved by recreational boaters and sailors. This project is situated on the shores of Larchmont Harbor, with a private dock providing direct access to the water.
The site served as the focal point of the design. The main floor was elevated to address flooding concern, while the landscape was modified to meet the home. The home is comprised of a solid sculptural mass surrounding glass and cedar and supported on basalt base. The main level is closed to the street, with a high band of horizontal glass on the upper level lighting the private spaces and two basalt masses at grade tying the home to the landscape. The rear of the home opens with a wrapping wall of glass overlooking the pool and water beyond. Upper level terraces offer the family an inviting private retreat from which to watch the sunset, with an integrated sofa set into the stone fireplace.
